Supernumerary Teeth

Phoenix Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, David P. Griffith, DMD

In a condition known as hyperdontia, extra teeth develop in addition to the normal 32.  Supernumerary teeth will most likely cause crowding leading to poor oral hygiene and a need for orthodontic treatment.  Extra teeth are extracted as early as possible to prevent shifting and crowding.  The most common sites for supernumerary teeth are just behind the upper teeth, behind the teeth directly in front of your molars, or in the back teeth/wisdom teeth area.
